The GHGs levels in the atmosphere are increasing in Australia and around the world mainly because of human activities. Also, advanced technologies and industrialization are contributing to an increase in GHG emissions, which is resulting in the warming of global temperatures. Changes in GHG levels may affect ocean and air currents in Australia, the quality of water, animal habitats, the reproduction of different species, ecosystems, and food chains, and biodiversity will be affected by many climate conditions, not suitable for many biotic elements to live.

Changes in water supply
GONE WITH THE FRESHWATER, INCOMES THE SALTWATER
Water supply is slipping from the grip of Australian citizens at an alarming rate due to several different reasons;
- Intrusion of sea water into the freshwater supply, consequently raising the level of salinity to an undrinkable level
- Decrease in regular rainfall, meaning the rivers other freshwater systems cannot replenish their freshwater supply in a routine manner
Existing freshwater is getting contaminated by rising ocean tides, while there is a drastic decrease in the level of freshwater being received. Melbourne, as well as other Australian cities, will run out of their freshwater supply soon, at this rate!

Demand For heating and cooling systems
Since the climate is very warm throughout the year in Melbourne, cooling systems will be used all year round and therefore, have a high demand. Heating systems on the other hand, will not be needed a lot in Melbourne. The amount of cooling systems in Melbourne will most likely increase with the help of the 1200 Buildings which will make the costs for installing energy efficient cooling systems much cheaper.
Changes needed for infrastructure of city
The 1200 Buildings program will also change the infrastructure of most buildings in Melbourne. Upgrades will be made to buildings make them more energy efficient for cheaper costs. The cheaper costs will encourage more people to upgrade their buildings. Many buildings will have things such as solar panels and roof gardens. This can help reduce the reliance on energy sources that release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and therefore, lower the change in climate in Melbourne.
